BCCI is planning to rest Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against England. The 27-year-old, who was rested for the second Test in Chennai, is expected to play a crucial role in the final two Tests in Ahmedabad. The fast-bowler has been playing non-stop cricket for last few months. He also led India’s pace-attack in Australia in the absence of other experienced players.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered an abdominal strain which ruled him out of the fourth Test against Australia in Brisbane. Hence, the Indian team management is really concerned about managing the bowler’s workload. Reflecting on the same, a senior BCCI Official said, “Jassi has already bowled close to 180 overs, including nearly 150 overs in four Test matches since the start of the Australian tour. Add to that, the number of hours spent on the field. It is only logical that after these two Tests in Motera, where he will have a big role to play, he should be given rest for white-ball leg.”

Bhuvneshwar and Shami set to make their comebacks

India’s experienced fast-bowling duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami could also mark their return in the white-ball matches. While Bhuvneshwar has been out because of thigh muscle injury, Shami suffered a fracture in his right-arm during the first Test against Australia. The BCCI official gave an update on the fast-bowlers available for the white-ball leg. He said, “Bhuvneshwar Kumar might make a comeback and Mohammed Shami after a break (if he features in last two Tests) will play a few white-ball games. Nattu (T Natarajan) and Saini will also come back in the white-ball teams. As far as Jassi is concerned, he can well get ready playing 14-16 high-intensity IPL games for Mumbai Indians.”

Ashwin to be back in white-ball series?

The BCCI official also hinted on a remarkable return for Ravichandran Ashwin to India’s white-ball setup. Ashwin has been sensational for India in the Test matches for quite some time now. It is being reported that the all-rounder could also be in the scheme of things for the white-ball series if Ravindra Jadeja is not deemed fit.
