In a gripping IPL 2025 clash at Wankhede Stadium on May 6, the Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off a tense 3-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) via the DLS method. While GT climbed to the top of the points table with this result, the spotlight was firmly on MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who produced another masterclass in death bowling. Despite his brilliance, MI couldn't defend their total, falling short in the closing moments of a rain-disrupted encounter.

Mumbai Indians, batting first, managed to post a competitive total of 155/8 in their 20 overs. The innings was built on Will Jacks' 53 off 35 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s 35 off 24, but GT's bowling, led by R. Sai Kishore, kept MI from accelerating in the middle overs. Kishore, the left-arm spinner, returned with figures of 2/34 in a smart spell that included the key wicket of Rohit Sharma. Rashid Khan also maintained pressure with an economical 1/21 from his four overs. Their disciplined effort ensured MI couldn't build on a solid foundation.

In response, GT's innings was anchored by captain Shubman Gill, who compiled a patient 43 off 46 balls. Though his knock lacked fluency, it provided the stability needed in a chase that saw multiple interruptions. After solid contributions from Jos Buttler (30) and a burst of fireworks from Sherfane Rutherford (28 off 15), GT looked poised for victory. However, a late surge from Mumbai's bowlers and a rain delay at 132/6 after 18 overs added drama. With 15 runs needed from 6 balls under the DLS method, GT’s lower order kept cool to secure the win at 147/7 in 19 overs.

MI lose crucial points as GT move to top of the points table

Jasprit Bumrah, though on the losing side, was undeniably the standout performer. Bowling with pace, accuracy, and impeccable control, he delivered a four-over spell that cost just 19 runs and fetched 2 wickets. His yorkers were near-unplayable, and he consistently put GT’s middle and lower order under pressure. Even during the tense final overs after the rain break, Bumrah was MI’s best hope of pulling off a win, and he very nearly did, claiming the wickets of Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan at critical junctures.

Ultimately, Bumrah’s brilliance wasn't enough, but his performance reaffirmed why he remains one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket. For MI, the narrow loss ended a six-game winning streak, while GT took top position on the table.
