The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, February 22 announced the partial schedule of IPL 2024. However, the tournament will kick start from March 22 with reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab King in their tournament opener on March 23.

In conversation with ESPNcricinfo after the schedule announcement, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed that Australian pacer Jhye Richardson will miss the first half of the tournament as he continues to struggle with injury. The Aussie international is recovering from a side strain he sustained during the Big Bash League (BBL).

“He’s touch and go but will definitely be available for some part of IPL,” DC co-owner Parth Jindal said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Richardson has been a revelation in the BBL, scalping 94 wickets in 70 matches at an average of 20.91 and economy of 7.75. He was last seen playing for Punjab Kings in 2021 and did not feature in the last two editions of the tournament. But the Australian fast bowler was roped in by the Delhi-based franchise at the IPL 2024 mini-auction for INR 5 Crore.
