England's star batter Joe Root is in amazing touch with his bat on the third day of the fourth Test in Manchester. Allying with the top-order batter Ollie Pope, Root took India’s bowling attack to the cleaners and collected valuable runs in the first session. After the second day closed with England’s score of 225/2, both Pope and Root didn’t show mercy against Team India bowlers and built a 103-run stand. Root, who had scored 13,259 runs before this game, needed 30 and 31 runs in this match to surpass India’s Rahul Dravid’s record of 13,288 runs and South Africa legend Jacques Kallis’ feat of 13,289 runs.
With his 31st run, he became the batter with the third-highest run-scorer in the longest format of the sport. Now, he is only behind Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar on the chart of batters with the highest run-getter in red-ball cricket. Noting Root’s sensational achievement, netizen showered praise on the 34-year-old. An X user named Abhishek AB wrote, "Since Joe Root became the third-highest run-getter in Test cricket, it’s worth appreciating just how consistently he has carried England’s batting throughout his career..."
Below are some of the fans reactions on X on Joe Root becoming third highest run-scorer in Test cricket:
England building pressure on India in Manchester Test
Witnessing the opening session of the third day’s play, it can be said England are in a dominating position as they are heading towards India’s total of 358. In the first session, both Joe Root and Pope added 107 runs to England’s scorecard.
Following the first session, England are 332/2 in 74 overs, with Pope (unbeaten 70 off 123) and Root (unbeaten 63 off 115) at the crease. Team India will have to break this partnership in the second session to contain the home team from taking a heavy lead.
