In what comes as a huge blow to the England cricket team, star batter Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 set to be staged in Australia. The same was confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board in an official release on Friday.

The release added that no replacement has been added yet but an announcement will be made in due course.  From what is being learnt, Bairstow sustained a lower limb injury while playing golf which has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

This implies Bairstow will also not be able to take part in the third Test match against South Africa set to commence on September 8. Ben Duckett has been added to the England team for this fixture.

The incident comes hours after England had announced a 15-member squad for the marquee event in Australia later this year. In that squad, the board had named three travelling reserves-  Liam Dawson, Richard Gleeson and Tymal Mills .
