Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is making significant strides in India, with increasing recognition from various state governments. Notably, the Meghalaya team, Jubilant Divine Esports, one of the invited teams for the highly anticipated Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) 2024, has received official support from their state government.
The third edition of the BMPS is set to kick off on August 20th, featuring 128 invited teams competing for a massive prize pool of INR 2 Crore. The tournament will unfold over a month, with the league phase played online and the Grand Finals taking place offline in Kochi, Kerala, from 27th September to 29th September 2024.
Meghalaya government backs local esports team for BMPS 2024
Jubilant Divine Esports, placed in Group 3 of the Blue Set for BMPS 2024, announced that the Government of Meghalaya has officially extended its support to their underdog team, which includes players like Ambush, Noizyboii, Shadow, and Nathan.
The club posted, "In a landmark move for the esports community in Meghalaya, Shri. Kyrmen Shylla, Minister of Excise., along with Meghalaya Sports Minister Shri. Shakliar Warjri, have publicly shown their support for esports for the first time ever. As a significant gesture, Shri. Kyrmen Shylla has extended his support to Jubilant Divine Esports, the only team representing Meghalaya in the ongoing BMPS Tournament. The ministers emphasized that this is just the beginning, as they plan to work closely with the Meghalaya government to transform the state into a hub for esports. Their vision includes developing esports infrastructure, hosting tournaments, and providing comprehensive support to players, aiming to bring them to the forefront and represent Meghalaya, and India, on the global stage, including in future esports Olympics."
Jubilant Divine Esports is the sole team representing Meghalaya in the nationwide esports tournament, BMPS 2024. The government's backing is a significant move for the club and is expected to boost esports in India, especially in states like Meghalaya, which is the first to take such an initiative. Additionally, other states like Madhya Pradesh and Bihar have also officially recognized esports by organizing tournaments, further elevating the sport's status in the country.

Jubilant Divine Esports competed in the previous Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2024, where the team made it to the wildcard stage, showcasing a promising performance. With the Government of Meghalaya now backing the club, there are high hopes for an even stronger showing in BMPS 2024.
The BMPS 2024 starts on 20th August with 128 teams split into two sets (RED and BLUE). After weekly matches and reshuffling, the top 64 teams advance to Round 2. This continues through elimination rounds until 24 teams reach the Semi-Finals, where the top 16 teams qualify for the Grand Finals. The Grand Finals, held from 27th to 29th September 2024, will feature 18 matches, with the top team becoming the BMPS 2024 champion.
