England pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the third Test against India because of a shoulder injury. Wood sustained the injury on the fourth day of the second Test at Lord's. Notably, England suffered a 151-run defeat in the second Test, having drawn the first match in the five-Test series. The third Test will begin at Headingley in Leeds on Wednesday.

However, Mark Wood will remain with the squad in Leeds and will undergo rehabilitation. Wood jarred his shoulder while diving to stop Rishabh Pant from collecting a boundary on the fourth day of the second Test. However, on the final day, he bowled four overs at India's lower order.

England now might include Saqib Mahmood for the third Test, set to be played from August 25.

Injury woes for England continue

Notably, England are already without its key players such as Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer and the absence of Mark Wood seems to be a big blow for the hosts. England have struggled with the bat so far in the series. Apart from skipper Joe Root, none of the top-order batsmen has been able to contribute much to the team. Notably, after a poor show in both the Tests, opener Dom Sibley has been dropped for the remaining matches along with Zak Crawley.
