JUST IN New Zealand announce 15-member squad for World Test Championship final

New Zealand on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the World Test Championship final to be played between them and India starting June 18 at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton. The Kiwis have dropped some players from their recent Test series against England to make sure they don’t give India any edge in the finale in terms of team selection. Regular captain Kane Williamson will lead the side unless his injury troubles him. Meanwhile, India, who are already in England for the mega encounter, are yet to announce the squad.

Here is New Zealand’s 15-member squad:

Notably, Doug Bracewell, Jacob Duffy, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner, who were a part of recently-concluded two-match Test series against England, have been dropped from the side for the Test finale at Southampton.

“It’s not easy to say goodbye to guys who have given so much to the group,” said coach Gary Stead, adding, “Doug, Jacob and Rachin have been selfless in their attitude to helping the team and supporting those in the playing XI.”

New Zealand have shown their trust upon Ajaz Patel after his impressive figures in the second Test against England. Ajaz had returned figures of 2/34 and 2/25 in the game. Given that pitch at Southampton is expected to aid spinners lately, the Black Caps are certainly looking to fill all the gaps.

“We’ve gone with Ajaz as our specialist spinner after an impressive outing at Edgbaston and we believe he could be a factor at the Ageas Bowl,” said Gary. The coach also stated that Kane Williamson and BJ Watling, who missed the recent game against England, are expected to be fit in time for the WTC final.
