After the completion of the three-match T20I series against Australia Down Under, the Temba Bavuma-led South Africa side are locking horns with Australia in ODI series, consisting of three matches. But ahead of the commencement of the ODI-leg, the visiting side received a massive setback as star pacer Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out with an injury.

The Protean fast bowler, who recently featured in the T20I leg of the tour, picked five wickets as they lost the tie by 1-2 margin. While he picked up two wickets in his four-over spell in the opening T20I, he scalped one and two in the next two matches respectively.

Kagiso Rabada ruled out of ODI series; Kwena Maphaka added

Taking to X, the Proteas Men confirmed the update around Rabada. “Proteas Men’s fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia due to inflammation of his right ankle,” Cricket South Africa said in its statement. “The 30-year-old underwent a scan on Monday, which confirmed the extent of the injury. He will remain in Australia and undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of the Proteas medical staff,” the statement further added.

Furthermore, the side confirmed the addition of Kwena Maphaka into the squad, stating, “Kwena Maphaka, who finished as the leading wicket-taker in the recent T20 International series, has been added to the squad.”

Speaking of the three-match ODI series, the first game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, August 19 at the Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns, followed by the remaining two ODIs at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on August 22 and August 24 respectively.
