Kapil Dev, the 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning captain, has promised Vinod Kambli to meet him after the latter gets discharged from a hospital in Thane while telling the former Indian cricketer to take care of himself, apart from saying he loves him. The call from Dev was made to Kambli during his 10-day stay at the Akruti Hospital, where he had received treatment for severe health issues in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being admitted there on December 21.
Notably, Vinod Kambli, who has been in frail physical condition for quite some time with videos of him going viral on social media, fell unconscious in his house before being rushed to the Akruti Hospital in Thane late last year. He was complaining of urinary infection and muscle cramps upon arriving at the hospital before the doctors diagnosed clots in his brain, due to which he was taken in an ICU for appropriate treatment.
I will come and see you: Kapil Dev to Vinod Kambli
Just prior to being discharged from the Akruti Hospital on Wednesday, January 1, Vinod Kambli received a special call from Kapil Dev, as revealed by hospital director Shailesh Thakur to PTI. “Hi Kapil paaji, how are you?,” said Kambli to the former India captain, and in response, Dev remarked, “I will come and see you. You are looking good, you have coloured your beard. Don’t rush. If you need to stay (in the hospital) for a few more days, please don’t rush. Tell the doctors it is fine if there is a need to stay on for two more days.”
“Take care. When you are better and come out, I will come to meet you. Look after yourself, love you,” Kapil Dev told Vinod Kambli before he thanked Akruti Hospital director for looking after the 52-year-old. Meanwhile, Shailesh Thakur was quoted as saying about his patient, “I have been a fan of Kambli sir all my life and it was tough to see him struggling because of his health issues. We brought him to our hospital and we will also take care of his medical expenses and hospitalisation in the future.”
