The Indian women's cricket team started the ODI series against England on a strong note. In the first Women's ODI (WODI) at Southampton, India managed to defeat England by four wickets, to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, thanks to an outstanding knock by Deepti Sharma. The English women's cricket team were just recovering from the 3-2 loss in the Women's T20I (WT20I) series, since they were defeated in it despite their best efforts. Yesterday’s WODI defeat has again taken a toll on their mind which has led to a decreased morale in the team.

English pacer Kate Scott comes back into the team after she missed out on the WT20I series alongside Alice Davidson-Richards and Emma Lamb. After the WT20I series and first WODI defeat against India, Kate Cross acknowledged the poor performance and the disappointment it brought into the team. The 33-year-old stated after the series, as per BBC Sport, "We're not going to win every game of cricket that we play, so maybe it is about adjusting the expectations about what it all looks like at the minute."

There's a lot of scarring from that Ashes series: Kate Cross

Following the WODI loss against India, Kate Cross also stated that the team has still not been able to recover completely from the defeat they had to face in the Ashes against Australia. Her comment read, "There's a lot going on and there's a lot of scarring from that Ashes series and we just need some time to get things right." in the aftermath of the Ashes, there was a complete transition in the team as they parted ways with their head coach Jon Lewis and selected Charlotte Edwards in the role. The captaincy has also been changing continuously and Nat Sciver-Brunt is their new captain.

There are internal tensions occurring inside the dressing room due to the form that the England women's cricket team are in right now. England will hope to turn the outcome of the WODI series against India by winning the next two match and bring their form back on track.
