Days after being ignored by the selectors for Team India’s Test tour of England, star Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer, Khaleel Ahmed has joined County club Essex for the ongoing County Championship and One-Day Cup. The Indian left-arm seamer will play for Essex until the conclusion of the 2025 season after he made himself available for both English domestic tournaments.

The 27-year-old pacer was in England earlier this month for India A series against England Lions, where he featured in the first game in Northampton. In the first innings of the unofficial Test, Ahmed picked four wickets from 19 overs, dismissing James Rew, George Hill, Chris Woakes and Jordan Cox.

However, the Indian pacer returned to the country after his stint with India A side, he is set to embark his County stint with Essex. Speaking on his signing, Khaleel Ahmed said, "I am thrilled to sign for Essex.I have heard a lot about the rich history of the Club, and I'm excited to be part of it and will look to make an immediate impact. I'm looking forward to playing at Chelmsford, meeting the loyal Essex Members and fans, and delivering performances they can be proud of."

It is to be noted that Team India head coach, Gautam Gambhir too played for Essex. He featured for the county side when he was eyeing his Team India return. While Khaleel too eyes to make a comeback in the national setup, he is set to make his debut with Essex when they take on Yorkshire from June 29 to July 2.

Director of Cricket Chris Silverwood also expressed excitement on Khaleel’s signing. "We are really pleased to be bringing Khaleel into the Club. We were impressed with his performances for India A and firmly believe he can strengthen our already very strong seam attack. As a left-arm seamer, he offers something different and will add a new dynamic to the squad in both the One Day Cup and the County Championship," he said, as quoted in the release.
