The Indian shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth, reached the semi-final of the Swiss Open, defeating Chia Hao Lee of the Chinese Taipei in straight games 21-10, 21-14 at St. Jakobshalle in Basel on Friday night, March 22. But, his young compatriot, Priyanshu Rajawat, lost his quarter-final clash in straight games 15-21, 19-21 to Chou Tien Chen of the Chinese Taipei.
During his quarter-final match in the Swiss Open, Kidambi Srikanth got off to a splendid start, racing to a 7-1 lead in his first game before taking an 11-5 lead at the break. He continued his brilliant play on the court, mixing finesse with aggression against a hapless Chia Hao Lee to secure the first game 21-10.
In the second game, the Chinese Taipei shuttler, who had gotten the better of Lakshya Sen early in the Swiss Open, created some trouble in the early stages, tying the score at 8-8. But, then Kidambi Srikanth found his attacking mojo back, to obliterate Chia Hao Lee in the second game 21-14, comfortably winning the quarter-final match.
Kidambi Srikanth is set to play Lin Chu Yi of Chinese Taipei in the semi-final of the Swiss Open.
Priyanshu Rajawat suffers defeat in Swiss Open Super 300 quarter-final
Priyanshu Rajawat, one of the rising young sensations in Indian badminton, had to bow out of the Swiss Open after suffering a tough quarter-final defeat at the hands of Chou Tien Chen. The 22-year-old, who had a stellar campaign at St. Jakobshalle up to this point, lost in straight games 15-21, 19-21 to the Chinese Taipei opponent.
