Indian batsman KL Rahul is on the method of restoration and will most likely travel to the United Kingdom with Team India on June 2 for the World Test Championship final and England series. Rahul, who was identified with acute appendicitis during the postponed India Premier League earlier this month, had been named in the squad subject to fitness clearance.

“He is doing fine and has recovered well as far as I know. He should be travelling to England with the team,” said a source close to the player.

The right-handed batsman hasn't played a Test since August-September, 2019 when he played in Kingston against West Indies. Rahul was also part of the Test squad which toured Australia but did not get a chance to play and was also injured in between the series. He has played 36 Test matches and scored 2006 runs with five centuries and 11 half-centuries. Rahul a few days back posted a picture on social media that showed that he was recovering well.

“There is still time, about a month before the start of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and another one-and-a-half month before the start of the five-Test series against England. The Indian team has done this before too, taken injured Wriddhiman Saha to Australia last year and made him do rehab with the team,” a source close to the player told IANS.

The Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul was in fine form in the fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League and was at a point the orange cap holder with 331 runs from seven matches. KL Rahul not just provides team India with his batting capabilities but also provides a wicketkeeping option, which could give Virat Kohli the luxury to field an extra batsman or bowler. He has mainly opened the innings for the Men in Blue for a large part of his career but can also easily replace a middle-order batsman.
