La Liga condemns racist slur against Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr during Madrid derby

Vinicius joined his compatriot Rodrygo at the corner flag and showed a dancing goal celebration, which led the home fans shout "You are a monkey".

Defending champions and current league toppers Real Madrid defeated Atletico de Madrid 2-1 at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday night. During the match, Atletico fans targeted Vinicius Jr with racist chants and recently La Liga has condemned the incident that took place in the Madrid derby.

Real Madrid forwards Rodrygo and Federico Valverde scored in the 18th and 36th minute to give Los Blancos a 2-goal lead in the first half. Vinicius joined his compatriot Rodrygo at the corner flag and showed a dancing goal celebration, which led the home fans shout "You are a monkey" at the 22-year-old Brazilian.

La Liga has condemned the racial slur against the Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr by the Atletico de Madrid fans during Sunday's Madrid derby. La Liga stated, "We denounce all incidents inside and outside stadiums, We work with clubs to keep our football friendly and enjoyable. Hate speech has no place in La Liga and we always work with the clubs and the authorities to identify and bring to justice any such case."

Earlier, Vinicius had been vocal against the racist remarks made by football agent Pedro Bravoa in a Spanish talk show while his compatriot Gabriel Jesus offered support to Vinicius by celebrating his 28th minute goal against Brentford in a similar dancing style.

With the win against Atletico, Real Madrid have maintained their perfect run in the La Liga 2022-23 season with six wins in the six games. The Santiago Bernabeu side will host Osasuna in the Spanish top league on October 2 after the international break.
