Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal is at the receiving end of criticism which involves his birthday party. On July 13, Yamal celebrated his birthday in a private event in Olivella, near Barcelona. Reportedly, he is facing allegations of entertaining dwarf performers during the celebrations. After a complaint by the Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism, Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights has asked the prosecutor’s office to launch an investigation.
Amid this controversy, Lamine Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui has stepped in to defend his son, urging people to show more understanding. Speaking to Europa Press, Nasraoui made it clear that the criticism aimed at Lamine is unfair and excessive. “People need to respect an 18-year-old boy, he’s just a kid who has the right to enjoy his life a little,” said Nasraoui. He also pointed out that Lamine is still learning, growing, and trying to balance the life of a professional footballer with that of a normal teenager.
Lamine Yamal is already a two-time La Liga, Copa del Rey and European Championship winner
Mounir Nasraoui highlighted that despite the media noise, his son remains focused. “I don’t listen to criticism from people outside. I listen on my own, and my opinion is that my son is doing things right,” he said. As the investigation of this matter is going on, Lamine Yamal continues to focus on his football, while his father hopes that both fans and the media will give his son the time and space he needs to grow, both as a player and as a person.
Coming off a stellar 2024-25 campaign, Yamal registered 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 games across competitions. Still a teenager, Lamine Yamal is already a two-time La Liga, Copa del Rey, and European Championship winner (with Spain). Recently in an announcement made by the club, he is set to wear No. 10 jersey for Barcelona which was graced by the club legend Lionel Messi during his near two-decade stint at the club.
