In a big update, basketball and race car fans are once again will be seen on single stage as NBA’s all-time leading scorer and four-time champions LeBron James has been named as the starter of the Le Mans 24 Hours race. The LA Lakers star player will be the official starter at what is the centenary year of the esteemed sportscar race.
The 24 Hours Le Mans race is set to take place on 10 and 11 June, near the town of Le Mans in France. The double Olympic gold-medallist joins the list of esteemed celebrities and will be the first from the field of sports to lower the French flag to unleash the 62-strong field race.
The President of the Automobile Club de I’Ouest, Pierre Fillon was also thrilled to announce the inclusion of the all-time leading scorer in the centenary year. “I am thrilled to welcome LeBron James to the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary and thank him most sincerely for accepting our invitation. The 24 24 Hours of Le Mans is a world-renowned event that, in the past, has welcomed some great names from various fields. LeBron James is a true sporting legend whose list of achievements and records commands respect and admiration,” he quoted.
LeBron also opened up after accepting the invitation to the world-renowned race. “It’s an honour for me to be part of this historic moment in motorsport and help celebrate the centenary of one of the biggest sporting events in the world,” LeBron said.
