
In a tragic event, four female footballers in Colombia died due to a lightning strike, resulting to the match halt. Four female players along with a man died during the local soccer tournament that took place in Casas Bajas town. According to the local media, ColombiaOne, four female players' names are- Heidi Morales, Daniela Yinette Mosqueri, Luz Eneida Lama and Etelvina Mosqueri. In addition, two more people got injured and were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Diana Carolina Cababilla, the mayor of Cajibio, released a statement that read, "The information shared with me from the site of the incident is that the women were participating in a soccer game at the time of the emergency. Jhorman Mosquera, who was also injured in the event, died at the San José de Popayán hospital." According to the publications, two more women received "serious burns" and were rushed to the hospital.
Not the first incident where lightning kills players
This isn't the first incident of players getting killed due to lightning, three months ago, lightning took the life of a football player.
The fatal tragedy occurred in the Peruvian city of Huancayo, located in the Chilca province. Juventud Bellavista, a Peruvian local team, was playing football against the Familia Chocca when lightning struck the pitch. The team was leading 2-0, and when the game reached 22 minutes, the referee halted play due to severe thunder in the stadium. Lightning struck the players just in time.
At the same time, 39-year-old defender José Hugo de la Cruz Meza fell to the ground after got struck by lightning. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
