After sponsoring the Ligue 1 for the last five years, Uber Eats has reportedly decided to step down as the French League sponsor to avoid paying a huge sum of around €15 million yearly. According to French media, fast-food giant McDonald's is set to replace Uber Eats as the official sponsor of the Ligue 1 from the 2024-25 season.

Uber Eats reportedly secured the sponsorship deal with the Ligue 1 ahead of the 2020-21 season at an initial deal of €15 million. However, the food delivery giant renewed their deal to the end of the 2023-24 season with the French league to pay  €17 million a season.

According to Daniel Riolo of RMC Sport, "They (Uber Eats) did not want to continue paying at that price… and there was an offer submitted to Vincent Labrune’s office (President of the LFP) with a tidy sum."

With the league looking for new sponsors, McDonald's has reportedly offered a deal to the Ligue 1. According to Riolo, the fast-food giant offered around €20 million a season deal, "It’s an offer from McDonald’s. They haven’t yet planned the comms for the junk food and everything, they’re working on it… It’ll be around 60 million euros over three years, it’s a clear increase."

With Uber Eats reportedly stepping down, the Ligue 1 faces more problems ahead of the potential exit of their star player Kylian Mbappe. French TV Channel Canal+ has also informed the league that it would not contest for the domestic television rights for the first time in 40 years.
