As the battle gets more intense in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Lionel Messi’s team Inter Miami have managed to grab a spot in the round of 16 after a draw against Palmeiras on Tuesday, June 24 (IST). Although the draw result helped both Inter Miami as well as Palmeiras a place in the next round, Leo Messi-led side will be facing his former team PSG in the knockouts.
On the other hand, PSG managed to defeat Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 to avoid consecutive losses in the FIFA CWC, ensuring that they seal the top spot in the Group B, thanks to goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi. The Champions League winners, who are in red hot form, will be ready to face Inter Miami at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 29.
Palmeiras to face Botafogo in an all Brazilian duel as Atleti bow out FIFA CWC 2025
Palmeiras secured the top spot in Group A due to the higher goal difference than Inter Miami. This means that they will face Botafogo, who finished second in the group despite the loss last night as the CWC awaits an all Brazilian clash.
Whereas, Atletico Madrid, despite securing a win last night failed to seal a spot in the knockouts as they needed to beat Botafogo by 3 goals or more. However, they only managed to put past one goal against the Brazilian team because of which they ended up being eliminated from the competition, falling short on goal difference.
There are high stakes on the round of 16 clashes as Leo Messi would be hoping for a brave performance from his team against the French champions, while one team from Brazil will hope to prevail in the competition after the match.
