Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)  has appointed Litton Das as captain for the one-day international series against India, replacing Tamim Iqbal. Notably, regular captain, Tamil Iqbal was ruled out of the ODI series after a groin injury during a practice match in Dhaka on Wednesday.

According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Iqbal remains doubtful for the Test series too. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Litton Das had earlier led the Bangladesh side in the shortest format as he led the side in a T20I game after Mahmudullah was injured in New Zealand in 2021.

Das has been part of the Bangladesh leadership group considering he was appointed as the vice-captain of the Bangladesh Test squad after Shakib al Hasan was asked to lead the Test side.

"Litton is one of the most experienced players and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well. It is unfortunate to lose Tamim due to injury for this crucial bilateral contest against India, especially because under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and has been our most prolific batsman in this format," read an official statement by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Reports have hinted that Shakib was first offered to lead the side, but following his denial, Litton Das was appointed to lead the team. Notably, Das will be leading the side in ODIs for the first time, becoming their 15th captain in the 50-over format.

Meanwhile, Team India has reached Dhaka to play three ODIs and two Test matches. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and a few other senior players were rested from New Zealand after the grueling T20 World Cup campaign and will be back in the team. The first two ODI matches between India and Bangladesh are scheduled for December 4 and 7 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Earlier, the third match of the 50-over series was also scheduled at Dhaka, but later it was moved to Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on December 10.

The bilateral contest also includes two Test matches, starting from December 14 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, followed by the second and final match of the contest at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, from December 22-26.
