In a blockbuster development from the world of football, Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal to sign German midfielder Florian Wirtz for a whopping £116 million deal with Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer fees includes a guaranteed £100 million plus a further £16 million in add-ons, which will be paid by Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen, to make it one of the biggest deals in the history of British football and a record for the Merseyside club.
The record transfer deal in British football currently stands at £107 million, which was paid by Chelsea to sign Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica just two years ago. At the same time, Chelsea also completed the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brentford for £100 million excluding the £15 million in add-ons, which would be paid under certain conditions stipulated in the contract.

As far as the current record transfer fee paid by Liverpool is concerned, it was worth £64 million for Darwin Nunez in 2022 from Benfica, which could rise to £85 million with add-ons, while bringing in Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75 million in 2018. Moreover, in recent days, it was revealed that Florian Wirtz wanted to join Liverpool, and the Merseyside club managed to negotiate a deal with Bayer Leverkusen below their initial valuation of nearly £126 million.
Such a high valuation for the 22-year-old has been due to his ability to be a quality playmaker for any team he plays for, whether its Bayer Leverkusen or Germany. After debuting for the club at the age of 17, the footballing sensation has scored 57 goals and provided 65 assists for them in 197 matches, and for Germany, he has got seven goals in 31 appearances, showcasing the world the talent and skill he possesses.
