On Thursday, February 6, Liverpool demolished Tottenham 4-0 in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final clash at Anfield, to reach the final of the competition with a 4-1 aggregate scoreline. After losing the first leg 0-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, Liverpool bounced back in style with a clinical performance in front of their home fans, to book a place in the Wembley final against Newcastle United, which will be played on Sunday, March 16.
Notably, defending champions Liverpool won the EFL Cup last season under previous manager Jurgen Klopp after getting the better of Chelsea 1-0 in the final just around 12 months ago. After the arrival of new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have gone strength to strength in all competitions this season, and he will be taking them to yet another final at the Wembley Stadium, which will be his first, next month.

Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboslai, and Virgil van Dijk found their names on the scoresheet during Liverpool’s comprehensive win in the EFL Cup semi-final against Tottenham at the Wembley Stadium. Moreover, Liverpool are already in a commanding lead in the Premier League, while they finished in first place in the 36-team UEFA Champions League, to book their spot in the round of 16.
After securing a spot for Liverpool in the EFL Cup final in Wembley, Arne Slot was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “It is special to go there as I know how iconic that stadium is. It's only special if you can win things. We know how difficult that's going to be as Newcastle are an impressive team.” He also talked about how it’s all about giving it the best shot to improve the players and the team, which will allow them to win big tournaments consistently.
“It's always nice to play a final. We come in every day, we try to improve the team. The players try so hard to improve themselves, but in the end it's about reaching finals and winning things,” he added.
