The centre-back for Spain, Aymeric Laporte has taken to his X account and hilariously reacted on playing against Erling Haaland of Norway in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier, who was his former teammate at Manchester City. On Sunday, October 15, at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Spain got the better of Norway by 1-0 in the Group A clash, to secure qualification in the main tournament next year.
Erling Haaland led the attacking line for Norway in the 4-2-3-1 formation versus Aymeric Laporte, who headed the back line for Spain in the 4-3-3 formation. The 23-year-old striker was kept quiet in the pulsating game by the Spanish defenders, letting him have only shot on target, with a pass accuracy of just 62.5%.
Gavi got the match-winning goal for Spain against Norway in the 49th minute, guiding the loose ball into the bottom corner of the net. But the effort at goal was subject to a four-and-a-half minute VAR check on whether Alvaro Morata interfered in it before and after Gavi took it.
Aymeric Laporte, who was a part of Manchester City from 2018 to 2023, winning five Premier Leagues and a Champions League, left for Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassrin in the summer. But still, the 29-year-old poked fun at his post on X about Erling Haaland from the summer of 2022, in which he had talked about not running after him for the next couple of years while welcoming him to the Citizens.
Moreover, the victory for Spain against Norway didn’t only help them book their spot in the UEFA Euro 2024, but also took, Scotland along with them from Group A. Apart from the hosts Germany, some of the other countries who are confirmed for the European Championships next year are Turkey, France, Portugal, and Belgium.
