The Rohit Sharma-led Team India had a mixed bag of emotions at the Rajkot Test against England. While the side handed Test debut to Sarfaraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel, Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also entered the record books with his 500th wicket in Test cricket. However, his 500th came on Day 2 of the third Test, after which he was forced to withdraw due to a family emergency. However, he returned on Day 4, as the Men in Blue registered 434-run win over England to go 2-1 up.

After this historic win, R Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayan took to social media to share a heartfelt post for the Indian veteran, calling the family emergency as the “longest hours”. “500. We chased the 500 to Hyderabad, it didn’t happen. To Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just bought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home at 499. 500 came and went quietly. Till it didn’t happen. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48hours of our lives,” Prithi Narayan captioned the post on Instagram.

“But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What a phenomenal guy. I am insanely proud of you @rashwin99 We love you!” she further added. Notably, Prithi’ gesture did not go unnoticed as Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh, Ashish Nehra’s wife Rushma, Suryakumar Yadav among many others also dropped their reactions on the same. Check the top betting trends on the best betting apps in India and websites.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma also stood by Ashwin’s decision to leave the side as he called “family first”. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rohit said, “When you lose your most experienced bowler in the middle of a Test match, it’s not easy. But everything aside, family come first. And when we heard the news, there were no second thoughts in our minds that he should do what he felt was right.”

With Ashwin back in the side, India will take on England in the fourth Test, starting February 23 in Ranchi.
