The Hardik Pandya-led Men in Blue suffered a 2-3 series loss in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies. The Men in Blue, who lost two T20Is on the trot, made a brilliant comeback in the third and fourth to level the series 2-2 and taking into the series decider. But, in the final match of the series, Pandya lost the match by eight wickets and losing their first series against the Caribbean side in 17 years.
However, this series loss did not go down well with a lot of fans and former cricketers as they slammed the side for their poor performances. Amidst this, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had a message for all those criticising Indian side.
Talking on his YouTube channel, R Ashwin said, “There are plenty of positive from this T20I series. It is very easy to criticise the team on social media since they lost to a team that didn’t qualify for the last T20 World Cup. They haven’t qualified for the upcoming 50-over World Cup as well.”
Adding to this, Ashwin stated, “I am not talking, backing or supporting anybody. All of these are secondary. As a youngster, if you are going to the West Indies, there will be some challenges.” “Losing the series 3-2 to West Indies…. many of them criticising and upset. It’s okay and understandable. It’s only fair, I guess. But we can see this loss from two perspectives. The players will get experience from this series,” he further added.
It is to be noted that R Ashwin was part of the India squad for the Test series against West Indies. He equalled Malcolm Marshall with joint-most five-wicket hauls against West Indies.
