In Match 40 of the IPL 2025 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hosted the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in what turned out to be a gripping contest. DC came off a convincing 8 wicket victory marking a double over LSG after defeating them by a narrow 1 wicket margin, earlier in March this season. A spectacular 4/33 (4) spell from Mukesh Kumar and batting heroics from Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel and KL Rahul guided DC to an easy win that took them to 12 points, just behind GT on net-run-rate.
For the unversed, DC won the toss and opted to bowl first with LSG posting a competitive 159/6 on a surface offering good bounce and carry. The innings was built on the back of a solid 87-run opening stand between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, with Markram anchoring the innings with a well-paced 52 off 33 balls. His knock provided stability after early jitters and set the platform for a strong finish. Impact Player Ayush Badoni later chipped in with a crucial 36-run cameo, injecting some momentum into the latter half of the innings. However, just when LSG looked poised to push past 170, Delhi’s bowlers pulled things back with a disciplined performance in the death overs. Mukesh Kumar stood out with a match-altering spell, claiming 4 wickets for 33 runs.
Comfortable 8-wicket victory marks 6th win of 2025 IPL for DC
In the second innings, DC got off to a good start after losing Karun Nair early. KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel went on to stitch a 69-run partnership for the second wicket with the latter scoring his first half-century of the season before being dismissed my Aiden Markram. But then another solid 57* (42) from KL Rahul supported by an unbeaten 34 off 20 balls from the skipper Axar Patel ensured a comfortable victory for the Capitals with 13 balls to spare.
Up next for LSG, they face a stern test against the in-form Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium on 27th April in what will be a crucial fixture for the play-off hopes for both the teams. Delhi on the other hand will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley stadium on 27th April, looking to seal their play-off spot with another win.
