Safe to say that Luka Doncic is one of the most accomplished and celebrated players in the NBA currently. Moreover, he is only 22-years-old, which gives Dallas Mavericks the time to build a team around him. Going one step at a time, the Slovenian international is on the verge of signing a landmark contract extension of five years with Dallas which can be worth $207 million rookie extension. Doncic, who is regarded the future face of the league became the first player eligible for the designated rookie extension upon signing because he has twice been voted among the All-NBA First Team.

After Slovenia’s failure to secure a medal at Tokyo Olympics, Luka Doncic is expected to arrive in the city on Tuesday wherein he will formally be advised upon the terms of the contract extension in the presence of Jason Kidd, Nico Harrison and Mark Cuban. As of now, suggested by agent Bill Duffy, both the concerned parties have reached up to an agreement which will put this contract extension in order from the 2022-23 season.

Paving his way into the NBA, Doncic had a very successful stint in the European league. And immediately after landing on the American turf, the 23-year-old won the 'Rookie of the Year' in the 2018-19 season. Following that success, Luka was named in the All-NBA First Team in both the following seasons.

Not only has Luka Doncic guided the Mavericks into the playoffs in the two previous seasons, but has also led them from the front, maintaining an average of more than 25 points per game. Apart from Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr has also been offered a 4-year contract extension worth $75 million, as reported by ESPN.

The only thing which remains to be seen now, is whether the Mavericks’ management is able to provide Doncic with reliable support from the back-court. Not only that, but concerns over Kristaps Porzingins were also raised as Mavericks were thrown out via the hands of LA Clippers in the previous playoffs. So with ample of moves expected from the end of Dallas Mavericks in the trade season, they surely have started with retaining their marquee scorer.
