Suryakumar Yadav is undoubtedly a modern-day T20I great. Ranked No.1 in the ICC rankings, Yadav proves why he is there with every inning he plays. The 25-ball 61* against Zimbabwe was just another addition to a list of already too many fabulous innings. As usual, Yadav came into bat at a tricky time, when India had just lost KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.
The scoring rate was dipping with Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza keeping it tight. India soon lost Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya was struggling to time the ball. India were 107/4 after 15 overs and it was then that Surya decided to break the shackles. He targeted Blessing Muzarabani who was having an off day.
India aggregated 18 runs off the 16th over and it was no looking back from there. Surya did not hold back as he hit a boundary and a six to Richard Ngarava. Tendai Chatara also got hammered for a boundary and a six in the 18th over. And, in no time, Yadav was near his half-century which he eventually completed in 23 balls.
But it was the last two shots that summed up Yadav’s innings. The two scoop shots that brought ten runs for India and Yadav were just pure dominance. Everyone knew where the ball was going to go, but no one could stop it and India finished with 186/5 in their 20 overs.
With Yadav playing another gem of an inning for his team, fans were just in awe of how the batter keeps doing it on such a regular basis. From former cricketers to fans, everyone lauded the 32-year-old.
