Rodri has played a vital role in City’s major trophy winning campaigns orchestrating the game from the midfield and also scored the winning goal for Manchester City in clinching their first ever Champions League title against Inter Milan in 2023. According to recent reports, Manchester City are willing to offer a new improved contract to Rodri which will be valid until the year 2029. This new offer could see Rodri become Man City's second highest paid player behind their striker Erling Haaland. City want to show their trust to Rodri as the club considers him the backbone of the team for the upcoming seasons.
Real Madrid among clubs interested in signing Rodri from Man City: Reports
During a match against their rivals Arsenal, Rodri met with a fatal injury of a ligament tear which saw him getting sidelined from the team for the majority of the season. The Ballon D’Or winner of 2024 made his way back into the team in the second last match of the previous Premier League campaign. The Spanish International later featured in the Club World Cup journey of City in which they were defeated in the Round of 16 by Saudi giants Al Hilal.
The Spanish International is reportedly in the target list of Real Madrid as his current contract is getting expired in 2027. Man City do not want to take a risk by waiting till the last moment to get the deal over the line which is why they are keen on agreeing terms with the 29-year-old to extend his time at the Etihad stadium. Pep Guardiola considers him as the heart of the midfield and wants him to continue with City as priority.
