Premier League defending champions Manchester City has finally signed Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for USD 36 million. This news comes after City spent £63.4m on Abdukodir Khusanov and £50m on Omar Marmoush. The deal for the 19-year-old, who has played for Brazil's under-16 and under-17 teams, includes no add-ons. He came through Palmeiras' academy and made 22 first-team appearances. Palmeiras planned to keep the 19-year-old until this summer's Club World Cup, but City was keen to bring him on board. Manchester, on its official X account, announced Reis’ official signing.

Reis played 22 games for his hometown club, including 18 league matches and two Copa Libertadores games. His outstanding accomplishments earned him a position in the Trofeu Mesa Redonda Brazilian Football Team of the Year for 2024. City's Director Txiki Begiristain described Reis as one of the promising young defenders in the world. “He is excellent on the ball and outstanding in the air – he has all the attributes needed to be one of the best,” he said.

"I'm excited to join the biggest club in the world"- Vitor Reis on joining Manchester City

Reis, a skilled defender, established himself in Palmeiras' youth ranks before making his senior debut in June 2024. He was instrumental in Palmeiras' campaign, which saw them finish runners-up in the Brazilian Serie A.

Expressing his happiness about joining City, Reis said, "I'm excited to join Manchester City, one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everyone has seen the amazing achievements in recent seasons, and I want to make my mark as we seek more trophies. Working with Pep Guardiola is something every young player wants to do, and I know he can help me to develop into the best player I can be."
