The Davis Cup, or commonly referred to as the Tennis World Cup will be having its 111th edition this year. The Lawn Tennis Association on Tuesday confirmed that Manchester will host one of the groups in this year’s Davis Cup Finals. It is to be noted that the iconic Davis Cup returns to Manchester after a long gap of almost 30 years.

Manchester with this latest update, will become the fifth city to host the Davis Cup in Britain over the last 10 years, the previous ones being Glasgow, Birmingham, London and Coventry.

According to the multi-year agreement between the LTA and the International Tennis Federation, Britain qualifies or receives a wild card for the finals every year as the group stage is held in Britain.

Talking about the Davis Cup Finals group, four groups will be held in four different cities. Eight teams out of those will advance to the knockout stages in Malaga which will be held later this year.

Great Britain failed to reach the finals last year after a 2-1 defeat against Netherlands in the group stage. This year though, Great Britain have qualified for the finals after beating Columbia in the Qualifiers which were held in February earlier this year.
