Manchester United, who finished with a negative goal-difference in Premier League for the second consecutive season, have already signed wingers Matheus Cunha (£62.5 million from Wolves) and Bryan Mbeumo (£71 million from Brentford) this summer, alongside Paraguayan youngster Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno. However, with Marcus Rashford on loan at Barcelona and Rasmus Hojlund reportedly linked with an exit, reports claim that Ruben Amorim is prioritising a dynamic, goal-scoring centre-forward to lead the line.
In a new development for the summer transfer window this season, as per David Ornstein, Manchester United are reportedly in pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Reports also claim, the United are holding direct talks with the Bundesliga side in the last 48 hours and scheduling a face-to-face meeting in the coming days.
The 22-year-old Slovenian international, reportedly valued at around £60-70 million, is said to be a top target for the Red Devils as they seek to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season. However, United face stiff competition from Newcastle United, according to many reports they are also in advanced negotiations for the highly rated forward.
Manchester United first scouted Benjamin Sesko at 16 in 2021
Newcastle United, meanwhile, are equally determined to secure Sesko’s signature, viewing him as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who has reportedly expressed a desire to join Liverpool. The Magpies are prepared to match Leipzig’s asking price and have already tabled a proposal. Manchester United first scouted Benjamin at 16 with Domzale in Slovenia, when then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recommended a £2.5 million move in 2021, only for the club to deem it too risky.
Sesko instead joined RB Salzburg, then Leipzig in 2023. While being associated with RB Leipzig, Sesko has established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young forwards. Last season, Sesko scored 21 goals and provided six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, including 13 in the Bundesliga, despite Leipzig’s disappointing seventh-place finish.
In the transfer saga of Benjamin Sesko, the Red Devils have reportedly outlined clear contract terms and detailed their long-term plans, emphasising Sesko’s potential role as the focal point of a revamped attack alongside Cunha and Mbeumo.
