Premier League giants Manchester United have removed all Mason Greenwood merchandise from their website after the striker was arrested on Sunday on a suspicion of rape. The arrest was made after a woman uploaded pictures and video onto social media accusing the 20-year-old of physical abuse. The woman named Harriet Robson (Instagram @hasrobson), who is believed to be his ex-girlfriend, shared shocking evidence of the alleged crime on social media.
Following the initial accusation, United were quick to release a statement and have confirmed that he will not be training with the team, leave aside playing for them "until further notice." While they have still not terminated the player's contract, it is being learned that all his merchandise has been taken down from their official website.
One can even verify the same by searching for the player's name on the online shop as they will receive the message: "Sorry, your search for mason greenwood did not match any products." In addition, the name of the player has also been removed from the 'Shop By Player' section.
While United's kits are tailored by Adidas, Greenwood personally is sponsored by Nike. Consequently, while the American company had earlier said that they were "deeply concerned" with the turn of events, they have now suspended their relationship with the footballer.
"We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation," Nike stated in an official release.
Greenwood is totally a youth academy product and has started for the Red Devils in 16 matches in the Premier League, with him scoring goals in five matches.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police has also gone on record saying that it was made aware of "social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence."
"We can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault," the police added.
"Inquiries are ongoing and the victim is being offered specialist support," another part of the statement said.
Notably, on Sunday morning, a video, audio recording and photos were posted on the said woman's Instagram accusing the footballer of the brutality before her account was deleted later in the same day.
