On Sunday, May 11, Manchester United, the 13-time Premier League champions, suffered a record 17th loss in the ongoing 2024-25 league season, slumping to 16th place in the standings, just one point ahead of their upcoming UEFA Europa League (UEL) final opponent Tottenham Hotspur. It was West Ham United, the visitors at Old Trafford, who did a double on Manchester United this season, this time getting the better of them with a 2-0 scoreline.

Notably, Manchester United started with just five players, who are the most likely to feature in the UEL final, but still, they weren’t quite up to the mark against a West Ham United lineup coming off no wins in their last eight Premier League matches. Thomas Soucek opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute before Jarrod Bowen made it 2-0 in the afternoon contest, and they managed to hold on to the lead, to take the three valuable points.

Leny Yoro subbed off after suffering foot injury at Old Trafford

Apart from the defeat, Manchester United suffered a huge blow as Leny Yoro, who has been improved by leaps and bounds over the past few months in defence, got subbed after suffering a foot injury. The pain was quite severe for the Frenchman, who had to cover his face with his shirt before being taken straight to the dressing room for treatment.

Moreover, the defeat to West Ham United also ensured that Manchester United have now equalled their worst Premier League record of not winning in seven matches, which was the case in the inaugural season in 1992. This occasion is worse than the last time because the current sequence of results have five defeats, while the previous one had five draws.
