Manchester United are reportedly expected to open talks with Brentford to sign their striker Bryan Mbeumo in the ongoing summer transfer window, in their bid to improve their squad for the next season. It is understood that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who had to oversee more than the half of the recently concluded Premier League season, gave the priority to bringing in more goal-scoring threat to the team after they were quite disappointing in attack.
In the 2024-25 season, Manchester United could only score 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches, which was the fifth lowest tally in the 20-team competition. It was quite a tough campaign for strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who could only score four and three goals for them in the league, especially when the former has been a part of the squad for two full seasons.
Manchester United signed Wolves striker Matheus Cunha on June 1
After Manchester United signed striker Matheus Cunha from Wolves just a couple of days ago, the report from David Ornstein for The Athletic has stated that Bryan Mbeumo has decided to give his priority to the Red Devils. It is also mentioned that while there were three other Premier League clubs interested in signing the Cameroon international from Brentford, he made the call to join Manchester United instead, but the deal is yet to be agreed between these two clubs.
Bryan Mbeumo scored 20 goals for Brentford in the Premier League last season, to establish himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in England currently, leading to interest in him not only from Premier League clubs but elsewhere as well. He has no release clause in his current contract with the Bees, but still has a year left on it, along with the option for the club to increase the length of it by another year if they deem it necessary.
