Bayern Munich has officially signed a new deal with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The 38-year-old German footballer, who captains the club, has extended his contract, which was slated to end this season. However, the new deal will keep him with the club for next summer 2026. Neuer joined Bayern Munich from Schalke in 2011 and has made 547 appearances for the club, winning the Bundesliga 11 times and the UEFA Champions League twice. However, his age has been a concern, and faced first career red card during one of the games in December 2024.
“I’m still hungry and am looking forward to another year at this special club,” he said in a statement. “We’ve still got many goals to achieve together,” he added. He successfully outlasted a few players who were previously regarded as his heirs at Bayern.
Best goalkeeper of this generation: Bayern Munich's board members hail Manuel Neuer
Neuer is one of Bayern Munich's most successful players, having won 30 titles, including trebles in 2013 and 2020. Besides, he won accolades with five World's Best Goalkeeper trophies. The German has made 547 competitive appearances for Bayern and kept 258 clean sheets.
"Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon," Bayern's board members said. "When you talk about goalkeeping in our time, you talk about Manuel Neuer -- and that's around the world. He's an absolute role model, both on and off the pitch. We're delighted that this unique and successful relationship will continue," they added.
Besides being a skilled goalkeeper, Neuer has been Bayern Munich's captain since 2017 and has fulfilled the club’s never-say-die ethos like few others. In 2017, he faced a serious fractured metatarsal injury, and again in 2023, he got injured on the leg.
