Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mark Wood bid adieu to his teammates on Sunday, May 7 as he returned to the UK for the birth of his child. The franchise posted a video of him leaving a message for the fans and his team in which he left high praises for the backroom staff and said that he hopes to return to contribute to the team.

The English pacer said in the video, “For the birth of my daughter, so sadly, but for a good reason I have to go home. Hopefully, I might be able to come back and you can see me play my game.”  He also apologized that he could not play more part in the season so far and believed that ‘one last push’ can take LSG to the playoffs. Lucknow posted the video on Twitter and captioned it, “We're so happy for you, Woody. You'll be missed!”

Mark Wood was exceptional in the earlier part of the season as he started with a fifer against Delhi Capitals in their opening game. He picked up 11 wickets in four matches. He was in great form before getting down with flu and Naveen-Ul-Haq replacing him in the XI. Lucknow are also missing the services of their captain KL Rahul after he sustained an injury and with all-rounder Krunal Pandya taking the captaincy reigns. Lucknow are third in the IPL table after 11 games and will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, May 13.
