With the final Grand Slam of tennis, US Open set to commence in just less than ten days time, Marketa Vondrousova of Czech Republic and Britain’s Cameron Norrie are the latest to withdraw from the tournament. It is to be noted that both the players decision to pull out of the tournament comes after they struggle to regain complete fitness after respective injuries. While Norrie has cited a forearm injury, Vondrousova’s decision to pull out also comes after sustaining a hand injury.

“I have been working hard to get my body to full health - unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped. Therefore I will not be able to compete in this year’s US open. I’ll take some rest and recharge. Can’t wait to get back to competing like a dog 🐕⚡️,” Cameron Norrie captioned a post on Instagram confirming his withdrawal. The British player is currently ranked 47th in the ATP Rankings and has been out of action since mid-July.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, Marketa is currently raked 18th in the WTA Rankings and has been sidelined from competitive tennis since her first round exit in Wimbledon this year. In the women’s singles, the Czechia is the third player to withdraw from the tournament after decisions from Romania’s Sorana Cirstea and China’s Zhu Lin.
