Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad midfielder, has reportedly agreed personal terms in a verbal manner with Arsenal on a long-term contract, to join them for the next season. It is understood that the 26-year-old has also informed his current club Real Sociedad about his intention to become a part of Arsenal once the release clause worth £50 million in his current contract with them gets triggered in the summer, but until then, he will look to give them 100%.

Notably, it was last summer when Liverpool were more than interested in signing Martin Zubimendi, but then, after agreeing to move to the Merseyside club, he did a U-turn, and now they are no longer looking to bring him in. As per the report from talkSPORT, a deal between Martin Zubimendi and Arsenal could have gotten through in the January transfer window with them reaching an advanced stage in their negotiations.

Arsenal fail to win any major trophy in 2024-25 football season

Although it didn’t happen a few months ago, Martin Zubimendi has given Arsenal his word about triggering the release clause in his contract when the option arises. The arrival of the Spaniard will bolster the squad for the Gunners in their bid to challenge for the Premier League title once again next season, especially with the potential departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey as free agents on the cards.

Moreover, Arsenal will finish without a major trophy in the ongoing 2024-25 after losing in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-finals to Paris Saint-Germain. They were already knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup in the UK before losing the Premier League title to Liverpool last month, and they are currently fighting to secure a sport in the UCL next season.
