A massive transfer news around Arsenal is that Real Sociedad’s Marin Zubimendi is reportedly set to join Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window. Highly reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has just provided an update about the same with his trademark ‘here we go’ post. Zubimendi had a contract till 2027 with Spanish outfit Real Sociedad but Arsenal have decided to trigger the midfielder’s 60 million euros release clause and bring him to North London. Zubimendi is a product of Real Sociedad’s youth setup and has been playing for their senior team since 7 years, featuring in 232 games till date.
Zubimendi has been on the radar of many top clubs across Europe for the past few season including FC Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid. In fact, last year Zubimendi rejected a concrete transfer offer from Liverpool to move to Anfield. However, the Spaniard seems to be convinced with Arteta’s prospective project at the Emirates and will hopefully join the Gunners after the conclusion of the current LaLiga campaign.
Zubimendi set to compete with Declan Rice and Thomas Partey for defensive midfield position
Arsenal was in talks with Zubimendi’s representatives for quite some months and seem to have finally reached a conclusion with all the transfer negotiations. This decision goes in line with Arsenal’s call to release Jorginho at the end of current season; a player who plays in the same defensive midfield position as Martin Zubimendi. Although, Zubimendi will still have to compete with Declan Rice and Thomas Partey who also occupy the defensive midfield position in the team.
With this transfer, Zubimendi is set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the upcoming season as Mikel Arteta side are tipped to have a rather busy transfer window, with a couple more incomings expected. Arsenal have missed out silverware opportunities yet again in this season after falling out of the Champions League to PSG in the semi-final and losing the league title to Liverpool. Mikel Arteta will hence look to bolster the squad for the next season in hope to win some titles.
