La Liga club Espanyol’s goalkeeper Joan Garcia is said to have attracted a lot of interest from top clubs across Europe and is expected to leave the club at the end of the current season. The 23-year-old goalie has been in top form this season, and despite a rather poor outing for his team in the current campaign, Garcia’s individual moments of brilliance and a bright future prospectus has turned the head of many teams. Big names that are in contention for this young Spaniard include Arsenal, Real Madrid, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth among others.

Garcia is a product of the Espanyol youth setup and has risen up the ranks to secure his position in the first-team. He is tied down with a long-term contract running up until 2028, but solid interest from other clubs indicate that he might leave in this summer transfer window. It was reported that Garcia has an estimated €30 million release clause tied to him when Arsenal had previously attempted to sign the keeper for €20 million.

Aston Villa seems to be ideal destination for Spanish shot-stopper

The interest from Real Madrid and Arsenal does seem a little strange as both of these teams already have strong goalkeeping names in their current squad, who are unlikely to be replaced by Garcia. In such a scenario, Garcia would be looked at as a second-choice option, which wouldn’t be the most ideal scenario for the youngster who will be looking to get consistent minutes at this stage of his career.

Considering this, Aston Villa looks like a lucrative offer as it will allow Garcia to play under Unai Emery, who is building a strong squad for the next season following a stellar campaign in the current one. With only a few weeks left for the summer transfer window to open, it will be interesting to see where Garcia lands at the end of all this transfer drama.
