The transfer saga of Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team’s managerial role has been going on for several weeks now with no concrete conclusion emerging. While Carlo Ancelotti was expected to leave Real Madrid and join the Brazil national team towards the end of the season, there were recent reports suggesting that the deal might be on the verge of collapsing. And another figure who is affected at the back-end of all this saga is Bayer Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso. The ex-Real Madrid midfielder was tipped to join Los Blancos post Ancelotti's departure.
But the current fuzzy scenario has left both Leverkusen and Alonso hanging. With Ancelotti’s future far from decided, Alonso has no clarity over which team will he be coaching next season. Leverkusen on the other hand, also seem to be in jeopardy as they will have to plan for the future in case Xabi Alonso does leave for Real Madrid. While the club director had previously mentioned that Alonso's future would be sorted in the next few weeks, unexpected twists in Ancelotti’s possible future has put the entire operation on hold.
Leverkusen seem on course to finish second as Bayern Munich hold 8-point lead in Bundesliga
Speaking about his uncertainity, Alonso said that the communication between him and Bayer Leverkusen is very clear and transparent and both the parties are waiting patiently to see what prevails. He said, “Nothing new to say on my future, the answer is the same: we need to wait”, while speaking to the press before his team’s match against SC Freiburg on Sunday, May 4.
Before thinking a lot about the future, Alonso also has some important games lined up with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. With an 8-point lead, Bayern Munich are pretty much on course to lift the domestic title but Leverkusen will still look to play well in their remaining games and keep the pressure on Bayern till the end.
