Star batter Dewald Brevis turned out to be a star South Africa’s 53-run win over Australia in the second T20I of a three-match series at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Tuesday, August 12. The right-hander went on to register the highest individual score by Proteas batter in a T20I innings smashing 125* runs off just 56 balls hitting 12 fours and eight sixes. He also smashed the second fastest T20I hundred for South Africa in 41 balls.

After his blistering knock, Dewald Brevis got acknowledgement from none other than the former Proteas batter AB de Villiers. Notably, Brevis highly resembles De Villiers with his batting style and is also referred as Baby AB by the fans. After South Africa’s win over Australia, AB de Villiers shared a post on X in praise of Dewald Brevis and also mentioned that Chennai Super Kings played a masterstroke by adding him in the squad during IPL 2025.

Mind-Boggling that Brevis was picked as injury sub: AB de Villiers

Notably, Dewald Brevis didn’t get a single bid when he came at a base price of INR 75 Lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. However, he was picked by CSK during the middle of the 18th IPL season as replacement for injured Gurjapneet Singh at a price of INR 2.2 crore. He was impressive in that season amassing 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180.

Now, after Brevis’ record-breaking ton against Australia, Ab de Villiers that CSK got lucky and other IPL franchises missed a big opportunity by not picking the 22-year-old in the mega auction last year. De Villiers was also left amazed with the fact that Brevis was picked as an injury substitute in IPL 2025.

“There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever👏 The boy can play @BrevisDewald,” De Villiers wrote on X. “Mind boggling that he wasn’t picked up at all! To think that he came in as an injury sub,” the former cricketer added.a
