During the match 52nd of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja were involved in a nasty collision in their attempt to take the catch of Jacob Bethell, the opening batter of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). After the catch went down on the bowling of Anshul Kamboj, CSK support staff members came on to the field to check the players, and Matheesha Pathirana went off due to getting the brunt of the collision.
The incident happened on the fifth ball of the fourth over in the RCB innings when Jacob Bethell took a swipe across the line on a good length delivery from Anshul Kamboj, only to top edge it towards the point region. Ravindra Jadeja went after the ball from short third man region while Matheesha Pathirana came running from the deep backward point region without being aware about each other, and it led to an unfortunate collision between them.
While the ball spilled out of Ravindra Jadeja’s hands, Matheesha Pathirana also got hurt due to bumping face-first into him. The CSK support staff members took a look at the Sri Lankan pacer before deciding to take him off the field, to give him some treatment, and because of that, Kamlesh Nagarkoti was brought on to the field in his place as a substitute fielder at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
