Italian club SSC Napoli recently released an official statement about the contract renewal of defender Mathias Olivera. The club has tied down the Uruguayan with a contract running until 2030. Mathias joined Napoli in July 2022 coming from LaLiga’s Getafe. He has played 74 games in the Serie A for Napoli and in fact went on to win the league title in the 2022-23 season under Luciano Spalletti. This contract business was just one of the long list for Napoli as the club is looking to secure the signature of its key players for a renewal.
The club’s Sporting Director Giovanni Manna had confirmed the news of Mathias Olivera’s deal in early February. He had also dropped hints about the renewals of two other players adding, “We are also ready to proceed with Alex Meret and Franck Zambo Anguissa, no rush but we’re on it.”
Napoli makes solid come-back from last season, courtesy to Antonio Conte
Napoli, who are currently second in the Serie A table, played league leader Inter Milan in their last match which ended in a 1-1 draw. Both the teams are separated by just a single point at the top of the table. However, last season wasn’t as convincing as this one for the club. After Luciano Spalletti left the club in 2023 to manage the Italian national team, the club went through three different managers within one single season. With such fluctuations in the club environment, the team could not produce consistent results and ended up finishing tenth in the league.
Napoli SSC then decided to appoint former Tottenham manager; Antonio Conte and he has brought about a change of scenery for the Italian club since then. Conte will hope that his club at least secures a good position at the end of the season so that they can play in the European competitions next season.
