ICC cleared Australia left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann’s suspect bowling action on February 26. The 28-year-old, who has appeared in five Tests for Australia, came under scanner after his bowling style was reported following the Aussie team’s sensational Test series victory in Sri Lanka in February 2025. Independent tests revealed the bend in his elbow comes down within the 15 degrees which meets ICC’s bowling guidelines. In Australia’s one-sided series victory on Sri Lankan soil, the spin wizard bagged 16 wickets in four innings of two Tests and ended up as the leading wicket-taker.

After getting clearance from cricket’s apex body, the Aussie bowler will look to gear up for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa to be played from June 11 at Lord’s. Discussing the unfortunate incident, Kuhnemann exuded confidence while talking about his bowling action. "I've never doubted my bowling action throughout my career and I'm always looking to improve the art of spin bowling in different conditions. I appreciated the professional manner in which testing was explained to me and then conducted," remarked Kuhnemann.

Cricket Australia provided support to Kuhnemann

During the whole incident, Cricket Australia (CA) displayed support for Matthew Kuhnemann. Ben Oliver, who is the Executive General Manager of CA, looked content after the matter got resolved. "It has been a challenging period for Matt. However, he has carried himself exceptionally well. He has had the full support of Australian cricket and he can now move forward to the next phase of his international career with great confidence,” said Oliver.

Australia will play their next Test in June where Pat Cummins and his men will be expected to defend the title in the WTC 2025 final against the Proteas at the iconic Lord’s in London. In June 2023, Australia lifted the coveted mace after beating India in the WTC 2023 final held at The Oval.
