Axar refuses to share bowling strategies in front of Brendon McCullum
During the award night, commentator and the ceremony host Harsha Bhogle asked him to reveal his bowling strategies and plans ahead of the first Test. However, Bapu, as he is called by the teammates, jokingly refused to do so. The 30-year-old said that he won’t do it in front of England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum. Bhogle asked him, “Koi target rakha hai aapne is series ke liye?” (“Have you set a target for the upcoming series?”)
Patel replied, “Top secret hai, abhi kuch bhi reveal nahi karna hai, aapne hi bola na McCullum saamne baitha hai.” (It is top secret. I am not revealing right now. You only said McCullum is here.”). His response left everyone in splits, including Bhogle, who later praised him for his sense of humour. Notably, Patel bagged the award for the Best International Debut (Men) for the 2020-21 season.
