New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first in the first ODI of the three-match series. The Men in Blue are coming after a 1-0 series win in the T20I series. While it was Hardik Pandya who took the side at the helm, it is Shikhar Dhawan who is leading the side in the ODI series.

Both Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan & Shubman Gill started strong on the back of a well-made half-centuries, Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 73 and a quick cameo from Sanju Samson & Washington Sundar also helped the side reach a formidable mark of 306/7.

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav failed to score in the series opener on Friday (25 November). While it wasn’t the day for SKY, Rishabh Pant failed yet again. The 25-year-old scored only 15 runs off 23 balls before falling off Lockie Ferguson.

Even the Twitter user didn’t stay away before hitting out on the youngster. While some slammed him by saying “missed a century by just 85 runs”, a few others criticized BCCI once again for consistently pushing Pant over other players.
