In a big update, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been removed as the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) President for violating certain rules. The decision was taken unanimously at the HCA Apex Council meeting. The council later cited that there were many pending cases against the batting great and hence it decided to terminate his job while also issuing a show-cause notice.

Notably, Azhar was at the helm of cricketing affairs of Hyderabad since September 2019. However, some administrators were not really pleased with his work as he took a lot of decisions on his own without consulting the panel. Other than sacking him, the Apex Council has also suspended his membership.

Here is what the HCA Apex Coucil said:

“After considering the complaints made by the members against you (Azharuddin), it was decided at the Apex Council meeting on the 10th of this month to issue a show-cause notice on the ground that you have acted in violation of the rules. The Apex Council is suspending you and your membership of HCA is being terminated until completion of the inquiry on these complaints,” the show-cause notice read according to India Today.

In the notice, it was apparently also mentioned that Azharuddin is mentor of private cricket club in Dubai which also takes part in a T10 tournament not recognised by the BCCI. It should be noted that the 58-year-old worked as the mentor of the Northern Warriors in Abu Dhabi T10 League earlier this year.

Azharuddin's 20 months as the HCA President was laden with controversy and he is yet to comment on the matter. It remains to be seen what he opines in the public following his sacking as the HCA President.
